11/20/04: Cambria Subdivision, Cary, IL (McHenry)
A cooper hawk was sitting on my fence next to the bird feeders
for about 15 minutes at 3:30pm Saturday. I was able to watch
with binoculars before it flew south.
Nice long tail with the horizontal stripes across the tail. The brown front
looked like a doily flapping in the breeze.
40 sparrows and 15 Mourning Dove, Zenaida macroura at the feeders all day, so I
guess the cooper hawk liked the action.
Location of the bird was the Cambria subdivision between Northwest Highway &
Three Oaks in Cary, IL (McHenry).
