Bartel Grasslands Restoration Project - The Bartel Grassland Restoration Project is a large prairie
restoration, a group effort sustained through a partnership of the Forest
Preserve District of Cook County, Audubon-Chicago Region, CorLands, the U.S.Army
Corps of Engineers, Thorn Creek Audubon and the Bartel Grassland Volunteers.
Chicago Environmental Network
- The Chicagoland Environmental
Network (CEN), a group of more than 300 environmental and natural
resource organizations, can get you
connected.
Chicago Wilderness (Consortium) - An unprecedented alliance of more than 170 public and private organizations
working together to protect, restore, study and manage the precious natural
ecosystems of the Chicago region for the benefit of the public.
Friends of the Parks - Our mission is to
preserver, protect, improve and promote the use of Chicago parks, forest
preserves and recreational areas for the benefit of all neighborhoods and
citizens.
IL Department of Natural Resources
- Our mission is to manage, protect and sustain Illinois' natural and
cultural resources; provide resource-compatible recreational opportunities;
and promote natural resource-related public safety, education, and science.
Lake County, IL, Forest Preserve District
- To preserve a dynamic and unique system of diverse natural and cultural
resources, and to develop innovative education, recreation and cultural
opportunities of regional value, while exercising environmental and fiscal
responsibility.
Lake Michigan Federation -
The Federation mission is taking care of the fish, wildlife, air, land, and
water that make the Lake Michigan region a national treasure and helping
citizens understand how they can help too.
Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation
- The Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation was established in 1962 by the
late Max McGraw--founder of the McGraw Edison Co., sportsman, and ardent
conservationist--for the purpose of furthering management and conservation
of wildlife and fisheries resources through programs of research, education,
and cooperation with other agencies.
McHenry County Conservation District
- The McHenry County Conservation District owns or manages over 18,000 acres
of beautiful open land with young and old trees, prairies, wetlands, ponds,
creeks, and rivers. Our 19 open conservation areas include trails, picnic
facilities, shelters, camp sites, fishing sites, rare plant and animal
examples, educational facilities w/educators, and more.
Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie -
19,165 acre parcel of land in Illinois that is managed to meet four primary
objectives: To conserve, restore, and enhance the native populations and
habitats of fish, wildlife, and plants. To provide opportunities for
scientific, environmental, and land use education and research. To allow the
continuation of existing agricultural uses of lands within Midewin National
Tallgrass Prairie for the next 20 years, or for compatible resource
management uses thereafter.
To provide recreational opportunities that are compatible with the above
purposes.
Orland Grassland Volunteers -
The Orland Grassland Volunteers work to restore the Orland Grassland Forest
Preserve, and to organize outreach, fieldwork and educational activities
emphasizing the importance and purpose of the restoration initiatives.
Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum - The
Nature Museum is the place where
you'll be dazzled by beautiful wildflowers, exotic butterflies will land on
your shoulder—even in December, youngsters can dress up like animals and go
a little wild and your spirit will be lifted in a sun-soaked building,
surrounded by the trees and wildlife.
Stillman Nature Center -
The Alexander Stillman Nature Center is a private,
not-for-profit center for environmental education located on 80 acres
of woods, lake and prairie in South Barrington, Illinois. A former estate,
the land was donated by Alexander Stillman for the purpose of
establishing a nature center.
